I know, I know. I’m one of those people, and by those people I mean the people who constantly pair characters together and imagines them riding off into the sunset. I’m a hopeless romantic at heart, so when I see that two characters have potential, I will jump right on that ship and sail the waves of bliss. To start off, we all know Ahsoka is a Jedi and holds her teachings and religion with the highest respect. I am aware that her character is not romantically involved, nor do I see her following that path (if she survives into the future).
BUT, my shipper heart says otherwise. After reading the Clone Wars novels by Karen Traviss and Karen Miller, I was convinced that Rex and Ahsoka were meant to be. I still think that way. The biggest complaints I get from other fans include:
- She’s too young.
- He’s too old.
Yes, I am aware that Ahsoka started off as a 14-year old girl. Technically, she was older than Rex because Rex was ten years old at the time. However, because of his accelerated aging, he resembles a man in his late twenties or early thirties. I ship them at the point when she is 16 year and older. You say that’s still too young? Let me whip out some facts for you. Across the United States, the age of consent ranges between 15 and 18. The same ranges can be found in other countries. Therefore, I’m walking on safe territory.
Some people still complain that they don’t see it. I get it. I didn’t see it either and I remember being slightly disturbed by it at one point, but I’m telling you, those Clone Wars novels will really change your perspective. You get to see aspects of their friendship and growing relationship that you don’t see in the television series.
My love for them burns so strongly that back in October 2012, I created a Tumblr blog dedicated to them. Call me weird, call me anything your heart desires, but none of that will stop me from imagining happy and fluffy Rexsoka stories.
