Star Wars Rebels News Roundup

Hera Syndulla from Star Wars Rebels voiced by Vanessa Marshall

To keep track of the latest Star Wars Rebels news, I went around the community and collected the top stories. We’re inching closer and closer towards the summer, and that means we can expect more content to pop up across conventions and other special events.

Dave Filoni and Vanessa Marshall at WonderCon

We’re still about a year away from Star Wars Celebration Anaheim, which is set to take place at the Anaheim Convention Center. But, this weekend (on Saturday, April 19), fans will receive a behind-the-scenes look at Rebels with executive producer Dave Filoni and voice actor Vanessa Marshall (Hera Syndulla) leading the panel. Last week, fans were given the opportunity to submit questions to Dave Filoni, some of which may be answered live at the panel. Vanessa Marshall’s appearance will certainly sweeten the experience, since she has been absolutely amazing with fan interactions on Twitter. The description for the panel includes “special guests,” so is this an indication that we will see more faces on the stage? One thing is for sure. Although Greg Weisman will be attending a Young Justice Meetup early that day, he will not be attending the panel. However, if you are there looking for an autograph, he will be signing after the meetup. For more information on that and Tiya Sircar’s response about the panel, click here.

Also, here’s a brand new still of Hera Syndulla, the pilot of The Ghost.

#StarWarsRebelsEvent

In less than a month, fans will be celebrating Star Wars Day on May the Fourth all around the world. While the rest of us don our favorite costumes and partake in various activities, some blogger fans will be attending an exclusive event hosted by Disney and ABC. There, the 25 bloggers will grab a sneak preview of the upcoming animated series. Most of the bloggers are mothers from across the blogging community. One such blogger is Choya Porter of The Real Frugal Divas, “Join me and 24 other AMAZING BLOGGERS from May 4th to the 7th as we take over LA. We will be kicking it off with Disney XD’s #StarWarsRebels. Be sure to follow hashtag #StarWarsRebelsEvent.” The bloggers will also be joining the LA Red Carpet Tailgate between May 4 and May 7 for the premiere of Disney’s Million Dollar Arm, a live taping of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, and a meet-and-greet of ABC cast and crew from various ABC productions. Star Wars Rebels T-shirts

If you’re looking to sport a new t-shirt at future conventions or just want to look rad while walking down the street, a new line of Star Wars Rebels t-shirts are available for purchase on Amazon. The graphics on the shirts are the Imperial propaganda posters designed by Amy Beth Christenson. Sadly, there are no women’s sizes. (via Jedi News)

Star Wars Rebels Books

Have space on your shelves for a few more books? Star Wars Rebels books are on the horizon, and many are geared towards children. After all, Star Wars is for all ages. Earlier this year, Chris Hamilton of Star Wars Kidscast explained and included several valid points about how Star Wars Rebels is a series meant for children. I agree with him. There are many signs pointing to that obvious fact, but many adults are in denial. What bothers me the most is that many grownups think children shows in general are beneath them, but that is another discussion for another day. (via Jedi News)

What do the books tell us about what we should expect from the series? The titles prove that Ezra Bridger will be our focus character. He will be our eyes to the story and our “new hero.” Chopper Saves the Day sounds like the crew landed themselves in some trouble and Chopper is the only one capable of rescuing them. Given the character video for Zeb Orrelios, we know that Zeb and Ezra form a relationship, much to Zeb’s displeasure. Zeb to the Rescue could be the sort of sticky situation that forces Zeb to put his life on the line for the new kid. Again, since Ezra is the focus character, it makes sense that his interactions with the other members of the crew take center stage. Thus, we see something like Ezra and the Pilot, which may focus on Ezra’s interactions with Hera Syndulla.

In Star Wars Insider #148, Jason Fry wrote a fascinating piece on the development of Imperial stormtroopers, entitled “Imperial Icons.” His junior novel, Servants of the Empire: Edge of the Galaxy, may go deeper into the ranks of stormtroopers and focus on the people behind the iconic white helmet. During the Clone Wars, the clone trooper army was often called the slave army of the Republic. Now, rather than slaves, the stormtroopers are the loyal servants of the Empire.

As a fan of Wookiees with a blog called The Wookiee Gunner, I am quite excited to read Ezra’s Wookiee Rescue. Back in December 2013, Rebels Report spotted a Wookiee on the boards from one of the behind-the-scenes videos. This could be the same Wookiee that Ezra ends up saving. I think most fans of The Clone Wars would jump up in glee if that Wookiee turned out to be Gungi. What do you think? Which book are you most interested to get your hands on?
