Today’s spotlight is on Dennis Ramirez!
Dennis loves reading comic books, spending time with his wonderful family, and of course, Star Wars. In addition to drawing, he also hopes to be a writer someday. He drew this awesome sketch of Sabine Wren from Star Wars Rebels, and I hope to see more of his work down the line.

My name is Dennis Ramirez, accountant by day, aspiring novelist/comic book writer by night. Oh, and I draw sometimes too, hence, this submission.
When and how did you become a Star Wars fan?
Star Wars has been with me for as long as I can remember. I can’t recall a time when I wasn’t aware of it. My earliest memories involve The Empire Strikes Back. One of my favorite things to do as a kid was re-enact the Battle of Hoth and pretend I was a “Snow Walker” (my childhood name for the AT-ATs).
What tools do you use to create your art?
I’m an old school guy. I stick mainly to pencils and ink. On rare occasions, I’ll paint with acrylics. I would like to expand to digital inks and colors someday.
What is your favorite Star Wars piece that you have created and why are you fond of it?
Back in middle school, I reproduced a painting of the cover of Dark Empire II # 4 that I was pretty proud of. I liked it because it was the first time my painting skills evolved beyond rudimentary levels.
What’s the best and most difficult thing about being an artist?
The best thing is the sense of satisfaction and accomplishment I get when a piece comes together just as I envision it. The most difficult thing is when a piece doesn’t come together as I envision it. If things aren’t going as planned, I have a tendency to abandon the piece altogether rather than salvage it.
Star Wars Rebels is currently in its second season. What are your thoughts? How do you think the series will progress?
I’m loving the series so far. I watch it with my oldest daughter, which is a real treat. As for where the second season will go, it’s anyone’s guess. I’m super excited about the inevitable confrontation between Darth Vader and Ahsoka. I can’t wait to see how that one plays out.
Are you looking forward to the future Star Wars films? After watching the trailer(s) for The Force Awakens, what are your hopes or worries?
I’m really stoked for The Force Awakens. Excited doesn’t even cover it. I’ve already taken that Friday off work to make sure I can watch it as many times as possible. At this point, I have no worries. I’m going in with my mind completely open.
How else do you express your love for Star Wars (cosplay, fanfiction, etc.)?
I share it with my kids. There’s something really special about sitting down with them and getting lost in these stories. The looks on their faces, the gasps of surprise, it’s really neat. I will cherish those moments always.
Any final thoughts?
