For a third year in a row, Star Wars Rebels will return to the largest pop culture event on the East Coast, New York Comic Con–my hometown geek convention.

I vividly recall the first Star Wars Rebels presence at NYCC in 2013. Hosted by Pablo Hidalgo, “The Might of the Empire” panel gave us a more detailed look at the Galactic Empire during the early stages of the Rebel Alliance. We saw the origins of the Imperial troop transport in an old Kenner commercial as well as concept art of other Imperial vehicles. I also remember every camera in the audience capturing the first glimpse of the Inquisitor as his picture appeared on the screens.

October 2014 came around and a second Star Wars Rebels panel was announced in mid-September. Fans were treated to an appearance by the ever ebullient and talented Vanessa Marshall (Hera Syndulla) and a first look at “Rise of the Old Masters”, the season one episode featuring Jedi Master Luminara Unduli. I remember the panel was hosted by longtime Star Wars fan Christian Blauvelt, the Deputy Culture Editor at, who kept the audience entertained with a fun and insightful Q&A about Marshall’s character and the chemistry between the cast members.

With fans everywhere eagerly awaiting the return of the popular animated series for its second season, this particular fangirl was also praying and hoping the series would come back to New York, especially after its absence at San Diego Comic-Con in July. As if the universe heard my desperate pleas, recently announced that fans attending NYCC 2015 will be getting a panel featuring special guests and an upcoming look at the second season as well as an exclusive screening of two new episodes.

Last time we saw our heroes, Darth Vader single-handedly crushed the Phoenix Squadron, decimated Phoenix Home, and discovered the existence of Anakin Skywalker’s former Padawan, Ahsoka Tano.

As the second season of Star Wars Rebels opens, the crew of the Ghost is now a very real threat to the Empire. That’s bad news, because Darth Vader’s been assigned with the task of mopping them up. Undeterred, the rebels seek out old friends and new allies, hoping to rally the formidable alliance which began to crystallize at the end of Season One. Vader will dispatch new agents to counter their growing coalition, but the Sith Lord’s battle with the Rebels could be more personal than anyone realized.

The rebels will take over New York Comic Con on Thursday, October 8. Catch the panel on the Empire Stage from 1:30-2:30 PM and the exclusive screening in the same location from 5:30-6:30 PM.

Since the panel will include a sneak peek at what’s to come in the second season, will we find out more about these two mysterious Inquisitors? Will Sarah Michelle Gellar’s role be revealed? One can only hope!

The screening later that day will kick off with the episode “The Lost Commanders” and feature the Star Wars Rebels debut of three familiar faces–Captain Rex, Captain Gregor, and Commander Wolffe.

“My grandfather always liked fishing,” Dave Filoni said in an interview with Eric Geller from The Daily Dot. “There’s a little bit of that in there. A bunch of old guys fishing, taking it easy, and trying to decide if they’re going to help our rebels and get wrapped up in what’s going on currently, or are they just going to let things go and slowly fade away. We’ll have to see.”

Indeed, we will have to wait and see for ourselves!

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Captain Rex and clone troopers, so seeing his return in a room filled with other Star Wars fans is going to be another awesome New York Comic Con to remember.

In the meantime, make sure to watch the clip of “The Lost Commanders” in the latest Rebels Recon and pick up the first season of Star Wars Rebels on DVD/Blu-ray starting September 1.
