Star Wars had a most impressive presence at Canada’s leading fashion event, World MasterCard Fashion Week, in Toronto. Established and emerging designers debuted and showcased Spring 2016 collections, and one of them was out of this world. In partnership with Mercedes-Benz Start Up, a program in support of emerging Canadian fashion designers, a select group of designers participated in a Star Wars Design Competition and displayed the collection at the Star Wars Presentation on Wednesday, October 21.
The design competition yielded a winner: UNTTLD (a luxury line by José Manuel St-Jacques and Simon Bélanger). The winning look was inspired by Princess Leia’s slave attire from Return of the Jedi.
The two designers were presented with an award as well as two lightsabers by Roger Christian, who won an Academy Award for set decoration on Star Wars: A New Hope.
Also present at the Fashion Show: Irregular Choice! The international footwear brand had the C-3PO flats, Skywalker lightsaber heels, and Darth Vader flats on display.
