The profit-seeking and morally skewed pirate Hondo Ohnaka returns for a brand new adventure in Star Wars Rebels. Voiced by Jim Cummings and first seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Hondo had some memorable and hilarious moments throughout the series, from his drunken flight through the air during a circus performance to his encounter with Darth Maul.
Love him or hate him, the character had some interesting dealings with the Jedi of old, particularly with Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Ahsoka Tano. The poor and unfortunate soul crossing paths with him his time? Ezra Bridger.
Ezra feels the pressures of Jedi training weighing down on him, so in an attempt to temporarily break away and find himself again, he responds to a distress call with Chopper at his side. The damaged ship in distress belongs to none other than Hondo Ohnaka.
It’s been fifteen years since we last saw the pirate, and we know from season one that Cikatro Vizago is the leader of the Broken Horn Syndicate, a criminal organization located on Ezra’s homeworld. What sort of unusual business has Hondo gotten himself into this time? And how will he influence Ezra? Having encountered two new Inquisitors and feeling the pressure from both Kanan and Rex, the Jedi Padawan-in-training is on a difficult journey.
In a recent Disney XD promotional video about rebels and Jedi, Ezra asks, “Yeah, what if I don’t want to be either.” Kanan’s voice appears towards the end and he says, “You’re on a different path now.” Is Ezra considering a different life for himself? He is, after all, a teenager. We all know what it’s like to have the pressure of figuring out what we want to be when we grow up, so it’ll be interesting to see Ezra experiencing a similar dilemma.
“Brothers of the Broken Horn” will air Wednesday, November 4, at 9:30PM EST on Disney XD.
