Ezra Deepens His Connection To The Force In “The Call”

Star Wars Rebels, "The Call" Ezra Bridger

Ezra and the gang are visited by critters of massive proportions in the next all-new episode of Star Wars Rebels. While on a mission to obtain fuel for the rebel fleet, the Ghost crew also takes on the task of protecting these whale-like space creatures called Purrgills from a mining operation that threatens the creatures’ lives. In the process of infiltrating the mining facility, Ezra shares a special moment with one of the Purrgills, but did the brief contact temporarily rob Ezra of his Force abilities?

Star Wars is filled with all sorts of creatures, and with such an enormous and mysterious galaxy, it’s always fun to discover a new creature that plays a part in the story. Take, for example, the Zillo Beast from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and even the tibidees and the puffer pig from the first season of Star Wars Rebels. The Force connects with all living creatures, so it’s exciting to see different aspects of it as we go from an episode that dealt with the Lasat’s belief in the Ashla to an episode in which the Purrgills have a deep connection with Ezra through the Force.

Although he seems quite skilled in the ways of lightsaber combat and occasionally comes off as an experienced Padawan, there’s still a lot more that Ezra has to learn when it comes to being a Jedi and connecting to the Force. He has a lot of untapped potential, and instead of rushing it and having the series solely focus on him, the writers carefully and thoughtfully choose moments to demonstrate his next lesson and moment of growth. I’m curious to see how Ezra continues to use his ability to connect with other creatures and any disadvantages or side effects that may come along the way.

“The Call” airs on Wednesday, February 10, at 9:00PM EST on Disney XD.
