Father and daughter reunite in the next brand new episode of Star Wars Rebels. “Homecoming” features the return of freedom fighter and Clone Wars character Cham Syndulla.
The rebel fleet continues to grow, but they are in desperate need of a carrier to house the fleet. In order to acquire what they need, Hera must reluctantly reach out to her estranged father, Cham Syndulla. The rebels aren’t the only ones who need assistance, however. Cham also needs help to fight off the Imperial bombing attack on his planet, Ryloth. The plan is to overtake and commandeer the carrier housing the bombers, but the Ghost crew quickly discover that Cham may have a plan of his own.
We briefly touched on Hera’s past before when she spoke about her desire to fly, taking her away from her family and the fight for Ryloth’s freedom. There seems to be a rift between the two characters. Although, it’s not as evident on Cham’s part, whereas Hera wears her emotions on her sleeve. It appears as if they don’t see eye to eye on where the fight against the Empire should be focused. Cham has always had his mind and heart focused on his people, whereas Hera is fighting the bigger fight for the good of the galaxy. Is this different viewpoint driving them apart? Or is there something else at play that we’re not aware of yet?
What I also find interesting is that Kanan knows about the estranged relationship and expresses concern when Hera has to suddenly meet him after who knows how many years. It just, once again, shows that these two characters have had a deep bond for many years and that they know details about each other that the others may not be aware.
Also, how adorable is Kanan upon his first meeting with Cham? We know that Kanan has feelings for Hera, but I love how we get to actually see them shine through in this specific scene. I wonder how many other awkward moments we’ll get to see from Kanan and whether Hera acknowledges them!
Finally, it’s so awesome seeing Numa again. She touched everyone’s hearts when she first appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars as a young girl. I know the episode will primarily focus on Hera and Cham, and I highly doubt Captain Rex will be in this adventure, but it’d be great to see Numa and Rex talk about the old days, especially given their connection to Waxer and Boil.
Find out more about Hera’s relationship with her father on Wednesday, February 17, at 9:00PM EST on Disney XD.
