Disney and Target Team Up for Charity Line Inspired by ‘Rogue One’

While fans are gearing up for the release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in mid-December, Disney and Target combined forces to bring back the “Force 4 Fashion” fundraising initiative that was first launched in 2015 prior to the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Last year’s initiative had a more high fashion approach with the collaboration involving various designers from the fashion industry. This year, ten individuals from various backgrounds—Riz Ahmed, June Ambrose, Steve Aoki, Camilla Belle, Gareth Edwards, Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Olivia Munn, Kelly Slater, and Brittany Snow—have come together to create a line of t-shirts available exclusively at Target stores and target.com. The collection goes on sale starting Sunday, November 27.

“This year we wanted to continue the fashion-meets-fund-raising theme with a more accessible line and tying into the ‘slogan’ tee trend that’s popular right now,” said Paul Southern, senior vice president of licensing for Lucasfilm at Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media.

Southern went on to say, “We’re hoping that this campaign will help us spread the word to current and new Star Wars fans about the importance of standing up for what you believe in, and being a force for change in your community.”

When fans purchase a shirt, five dollars will be donated to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF in support of UNICEF Kid Power. Additionally, fans have the opportunity to join the rebellion by sharing their own stories on how they are a #ForceForChange on “Giving Tuesday,” November 29.

It’s great to see Disney/Lucasfilm tackling another fashion-fundraising initiative and that some of the actors as well as Gareth Edwards were involved in the collaboration process.

Lastly, it’s interesting to note that Southern stated, “We’ve been really focused on expanding our fashion business…” I look forward to seeing what other Star Wars inspired initiatives or fashion collaborations are being planned for the future.
