The Ghost Crew Team Up with a Pair of Unscrupulous Pirates in “The Wynkahthu Job”

A fan favorite character returns in the next all-new episode of Star Wars Rebels, “The Wynkahthu Job”! The one and only Hondo Ohnaka finds his way back into the lives of the Ghost crew, and although Ezra is pleased to see his friend again, the majority of the Ghost crew don’t seem to feel the same way.

Still, that doesn’t stop them from teaming up with him and the unsightly Azmorigan. In doing so, they are wrangled up in a dangerous mission to salvage a freighter full of weapons that could be of use to the rebellion, reminding us once more that every bit of resource for the rebellion is always worth the risk.

What I love most about this clip is that Ezra always finds a way to stay in touch with Hondo. Despite the pirate abandoning the crew at the start of the season and generally having questionable morals, Ezra still has a soft spot for him.

“I love that Ezra isn’t surprised by Hondo and what he’s like, since it’s totally a path Ezra could have taken,” wrote Elisa Ardell, a TWG contributor, on Twitter. Rebel Transmission added, “Yeah, I think that’s why he has a lot of time for Hondo. Reminds him of who he might have been if he stayed on Lothal.”

It’s easy for us to think of Ezra as a Jedi-in-training, but if Kanan and the others hadn’t taken their activities to Lothal, Ezra would have continued to grow up on the street, coming across a variety of disreputable people.

This is the 9th episode of the third season, and so far, we haven’t really seen much of Zeb. For that reason, I’m glad that he’s been paired up with Ezra. It’d be great to watch the two bond in a way we haven’t seen in quite a while and to see what they’ll learn from each other. I also adore how Ezra finds a way to make up an excuse for Hondo. It reemphasizes the fact that Ezra, the “street Loth-rat” of the series, continues to identify with the old pirate, even though Hondo is they type to turn his back on them, especially if it proves beneficial to him.

“The Wynkahthu Job” airs Saturday, November 26, at 8:30PM EST on Disney XD.

  1. Episode was a lot of fun – Hondo is always a blast and I actually quite like Azmorigan even though he’s AWFUL – but I was surprised how tense it was. Shadowy figures running around in the dark, scary big security droids, crossing a howling gulf on a cluster of bombs hanging by a wire… I legit thought something terrible was going to happen. And given Hera and Kanan’s little conversation about Ezra learning Hondo isn’t a real friend, I thought we were going to see him leave Ezra to die. Glad that didn’t happen, I feel like it would be a possibility for Hondo but Ezra’s faith in him is softening him up little by little. That said, I have to think this episode is setting up Hondo disappointing Ezra in a big way somewhere down the line… what do you think? I look forward to your review and Rebels Chat on the episode :)

    • Aww, it would be so sad for Hondo to disappoint Ezra in such a way, but I wouldn’t put it past him! As much as I love this quality in Ezra, he needs to not trust in others so quickly. He needs to go in with some precautions, otherwise, he’ll hurt himself and others in the process. I’m hoping he’s learned that by now, for his own sake!
