Members of the Hasbro team—Andy Ochiltree, Steve Evans, Joe Ninivaggi, Patrick Schneider, Emily Cantelupe, Kevan MacIver, Sam Smith, Tom Rego, and Chris Dern—came together at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con to discuss the various Hasbro Star Wars lines, including The Black Series, Vintage Collection, and Star Wars: Forces of Destiny.
The panel kicked off with a detailed description of each of the exclusives that were offered at Comic-Con, specifically Luke Skywalker and his landspeeder, Thrawn, and Episode 7/8 Rey and Luke.
Patrick Schneider unveiled a new lightsaber to the Force Fx Lightsabers line, specifically Rey’s Lightsaber as seen in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.
Steve Evans and Tom Rego spoke about the epic and detailed diorama that was displayed at the Hasbro booth on the Exhibit Floor. It included a variety of scenes and characters from A New Hope. You can see a video of that diorama here.
The diorama also inspired the Rebel Fleet Trooper figure and the Dewback with a new Sandtrooper, which will be coming out later this year. The Rebel Fleet Trooper will have a removable helmet and the Death Star data tape (as seen in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and the Dewback will have an articulated tongue.
Captain Rex will finally be incorporated into the line and the facial features were produced using new printing technology, which better captures the likeness of the character. Other upcoming figures include General Organa (with removable vest) and Maz Kanata (with treasure chest and removable goggles).
Hoth Leia will also be introduced to the 3.75-inch line. Other figures coming to the 3.75-inch line include Hoth Luke with Wampa, Darth Vader and Imperial Probe Droid, Han Solo and Boba Fett, Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Maul, Emperor Palpatine (with swappable hands for lightning), and a Rathtar.
The focus of the panel shifted over to the Vintage Collection.
“There’s a lot of potential,” said Hasbro’s Joe Ninivaggi. “We’re going to continue to look to you guys for guidance. Keep the fan polls and the boards lit up. Let us know what you’re looking for [and] what makes for a great Vintage Collection item.”
The Force Awakens characters, such as Rey, Kylo Ren, and the First Order Trooper, will be coming to the Vintage Collection in 2018. Doctor Aphra and the Rebel Hoth Trooper as well as Rogue One characters (Jyn Erso, Death Trooper, Cassian Andor, Assault Tank Driver) will also be included in the line. The Assault Tank Driver, in particular, will come with a matching vehicle that will have display and play value. It is the first Vintage Collection vehicle being brought to the line.
2018 will also see 5 additional characters that were left unnamed during the panel.
Unveiled at the panel was the Padmé Amidala Forces of Destiny 11-inch adventure figure. She’s wearing her Attack of the Clones Naboo Fighter Pilot outfit. She also comes with a removable helmet and an E-5 blaster rifle.
Lastly, Ochiltree reminded the audience that Force Friday is going to be an exciting day for fans, and although they didn’t reveal anything that will be sold on that day, expect more information to surface as we get closer to September.
