The Ghost crew continue to operate on Lothal in the upcoming episodes, “Kindred” and “Crawler Commanders,” airing on Monday, November 6, on Disney XD.
In “Kindred,” the Rebels are tracked back to their hidden base by a mysterious Imperial agent. In order to escape, they must trust some seemingly dangerous native creatures, who are far more than meets the eye. And in “Crawler Commanders,” the Rebels are desperate to get in contact with Rebel Command. As a result, the Ghost crew infiltrates a mining vehicle equipped with long-range communications gear, but the Empire arrives to spoil their plans.
New Clips and Promos
Rebels Recon #4.3 featured our first preview of “Kindred” in which we get to see the debut of Rukh, a Noghri who serves as the bodyguard and assassin of Grand Admiral Thrawn. The character is voiced by Star Wars veteran actor Warwick Davis.
Davis joined the Star Wars Rebels cast on the stage at Star Wars Celebration Orlando, where executive producer Dave Filoni announced that Davis would be taking up the role of Rukh.
“He’s really creepy, so I needed someone creepy to play him, and someone sneaky and devious, like you,” Filoni joked on stage.
As someone who hasn’t read most of the Legends stories, it’ll be interesting to see what Rukh is capable of doing and whether he’s successful in the tasks that Thrawn will assign him, like capturing Hera Syndulla.
The Star Wars YouTube channel gave us a second preview of “Kindred.” In it, the Rebels are pinned down and when their transport gets taken out, they have to think of another way out of the situation. That’s when Ezra sees the Loth-wolves running in the background. While Ezra appeared to be the boy who cried wolf in “Flight of the Defender,” we now know that the white Loth-wolf can be seen by others, like Ryder Azadi.
Zeb’s line is both accurate and hilarious, “This is good. When it gets strange like this it’s a good thing!”
Given the snippets we’ve seen in the trailer, though, it doesn’t look like the team sticks together, so it’ll be fascinating to see what sort of connection Ezra is able to make with the wolves in this episode and what additional piece of information we’re going to get that will fit into the puzzle.
io9 brought us a third preview from “Kindred.” It looks like a scene that happens near the end of the episode, since the others had left to retrieve the hyperdrive. Kanan starts to talk about how they always come back to Lothal. Hera points out the obvious, stating that it’s Ezra’s home, but Kanan says that they had been drawn to Lothal several times before ever meeting Ezra. Kanan believes that there’s more to it, but he just doesn’t know what.
A few fans have theorized that Kanan might have been born on Lothal, despite having been raised on Coruscant. Others think that this is his final destination. I don’t know what’s in store for Kanan, but I do love that he has a subtle connection to Lothal, making his connection to Ezra even stronger.
Lastly, the Nerdist shared an exclusive clip of “Crawler Commanders” and announced that Seth Green will be voicing a Trandoshan called Captain Seevor, a character who’s part of the Mining Guild. Green isn’t a stranger to Star Wars animation. In Star Wars: The Clone Wars, he voiced Ion Papanoida and Todo 360.
In the clip, the Rebels have captured Seevor, but the distress signal he had activated now requires a response, and if someone doesn’t answer soon, their mission will be blown. Kanan recognizes that this is Ezra’s area of expertise (sort of?) and lets him handle the situation. I love that this is a detail that’s been around since season one. Ezra is just known for impersonating people, and although they’re not always winners, I think he actually did one of his best impressions this time around. That said, we’ll have to wait and find out if the person on the other end of the transmission feels the same way.
