Earlier this month, Jim Rash (Community) sat down with Entertainment Tonight to talk about his latest film, Bernard and Huey. During the conversation, he also briefly spoke about his role in the upcoming animated series, Star Wars Resistance.
“You’ll here [my voice] come out of a creature. It’s really cool,” he said briefly, since he can’t reveal too much about his role just yet. “Bobby Moynihan and I are basically two guys who basically run the equipment. You know, sort of check-out area. Sort of like an Oscar/Felix [from The Odd Couple]. It’s literally a character named Flex.”
Lucasfilm animation is often inspired by pop culture and some of those references are scattered throughout Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. The Odd Couple is a popular play that also exists as a film and as several television shows. It’s also a common trope in storytelling and makes for great entertainment, like Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde in Zootopia as well as Shawn and Gus in Psych.
His use of the word “creature” implies that he might be playing an alien character. As some fans have pointed out in the past, the bulk of the Resistance (as seen in the sequel films) is made up of humans and there aren’t many non-human characters, so it’d be great to see more of a variety.
“I wish I knew more. Obviously, we drop in and did that sort of as a recurring, so there are so many things that happen in between that we are not privy to, so I can’t wait to see it. At best, I saw early animation. It’s already amazing and this wasn’t even a finished product.”
Star Wars Resistance is set to debut this fall.
