6 details we want to see in the second half of ‘Star Wars Resistance’ season one

Star Wars Resistance returns on Sunday, January 13, and we can’t wait to see what Kaz and the gang will do next, especially as we get closer and closer to Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Before the holiday break, Kaz and Poe went on a mission to find more information about what the First Order has been up to. Of course, things fall apart rather quickly and they fight off Captain Phasma and her troops as they escape the mining facility they were investigating.

The two pilots discover the First Order has been mining raw materials in order to create weapons. This solidifies General Organa’s suspicions, but we all know this will eventually lead up to the destruction of the Hosnian system. How will things continue to develop for Kaz and his friends on the Colossus as the timeline moves ever so closely to The Force Awakens?

We’ll have to wait and see how things pan out, but for now, here are 6 details we want to see in the second half of the first season:

More ace piloting action

Since the story primarily follows Kaz’s mission and his personal experiences, we miss out on what else is happening across the Colossus. We’ve seen the ace pilots pop up here and there, but we don’t know much about them. We like to think these pilots have the potential to join the ranks of the Resistance, but we haven’t seen any small steps or hints heading in that direction.

We hope some seeds about their future start being planted in this second half of the season. Even if the Resistance isn’t where they’re headed, we still want to learn more about these characters (especially Freya Fenris and Bo Keevil) and what brought them to the Colossus in the first place.

Synara’s role

Synara is quickly becoming a favorite character of ours, mainly because she reminds us of Agent Kallus from Star Wars Rebels. She’s lived a rough life, got mixed up with the wrong people, and discovers a new life on the Colossus. Most importantly, she makes a friend in Tam. Having this connection will no doubt make her second-guess her involvement with the pirates.

Going back to the Agent Kallus comparison, we hope she finds there are other paths available to her and chooses the life of an honest person instead of a thieving pirate. It’ll be interesting to see how she operates moving forward and what the consequences of her actions will be.

Tam flying

No one deserves to be in the sky more than Tam Ryvora. Tam has had opportunities taken away from her time and time again. It’s about time the right stepping stone shows up in front of her, allowing her to take off and stretch her wings. We want to see her in that environment and see how she does compared to the other pilots, especially against Hype Fazon.

With the Resistance working on the Fireball (as mentioned in “Station Theta Black”) and Tam wearing a Fireball helmet in this piece of concept art from “The Platform Classic,” we can’t help but feel excited that her time to shine is just around the corner.

Neeku’s story

(Photo: Lucasfilm)

Out of all the members in Team Fireball, Neeku is the character we know the least. We learned about Yeager’s past, and Tam shed some light on her youth in a conversation with Synara. We also know Kaz comes from the Hosnian system, he’s the son of a senator, and his family is wealthy. There’s still a huge question mark when it comes to Neeku.

He’s sweet and always takes things literally, but we’re curious about his backstory and how he ended up in Yeager’s workshop. While we like to laugh at his awkward moments, we feel like there’s more to him we should know about and understand. Here’s hoping the second half of the season reveals some of those details.

Pyre and Vonreg

Speaking of background stories, we also couldn’t help but notice how Commander Pyre and Major Vonreg are faceless villains. When the Empire was ruling over the galaxy, we had a variety of antagonists and they didn’t all hide behind helmets. The First Order is naturally more secretive and we only know a few characters by face.

There’s something about being able to see the face of an antagonist, however, and having that add an extra layer to their character. It’d be interesting to see how much more of Pyre and Vonreg we get during this second half of the season and whether we learn any additional details about them.

Kaz’s father

Kaz still has some unfinished business when it comes to his father. After their call abruptly ended in the series premiere, we haven’t heard from Hamato Xiono again and Kaz has only mentioned him a few times in passing. They clearly don’t have a strong and close relationship. We also don’t know if Kaz has more family in the Hosnian system. Does he have a mother? Siblings? Uncles or aunts?

Kaz basically fell off the grid, and even though he’s been walking around without an alias, nobody has bothered to contact him and he hasn’t bothered to contact anyone else. This thread will inevitably come back with some drama, so we hope it happens sooner rather than later.

What do you want to see in the second half of the first season? Let us know in the comments.

The next all-new episode, “Bibo,” will air on Sunday, January 13, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on the Disney Channel. Cable and satellite subscribers will have early access to the episodes through the DisneyNOW app and Disney Channel VOD.

  1. Good call on Vonreg and Pyre as literal faceless villains. They could use some development for sure.

Yeah, it’s something that dawned on me recently. I love the fact that Liam McIntyre voices Commander Pyre and it got me thinking about what Pyre looks like under the helmet. We haven’t even seen Phasma without her helmet. At least, when it comes to the movies. Finn is the only ex-trooper we’ve seen, but all the others remain faceless. And I know that was the case with the Empire’s troopers, but for some odd reason, it feels different with the First Order.

  2. Isn’t Kaz from the area that’s about to go BOOM! in TFA?

    • Johnamarie Macias

Yup. It’ll be surprising to see that happen this season, so I wonder how/when it’ll pan out.
