Star Wars Celebration helped kick off my passion for pin collecting, so I naturally reached record levels of excitement when information about the Celebration Chicago Pin Trading Program went up on the official website earlier this week. Here’s what you need to know about this year’s Pin Trading Program.
First off, the Pin Trading Program allows fans to collect exclusive pins and trade with other fans. It’s a fun way to get to know other people and engage in conversation. There are different types of pins and several ways to collect them:
- Road to Celebration Exclusive Pins: Starting today, February 22, ticket holders can purchase exclusive Road to Celebration pins. The first pack includes select characters from The Phantom Menace.
- Celebration Store Pins: In addition to trading, people can also purchase select pins directly from the Celebration Store. These will be available as sets or in blind packs. If you get a character you don’t want or you have duplicates, that’s where the trading part comes in.
- Exhibitor Exclusive Pins: Select Exhibitors scattered across the show floor will have exclusive pins. I recommend visiting these booths early in the morning as soon as the slow floor opens because depending on the popularity of the character, the pins allotted for that day will be gone before noon.
- Staff Exclusive Pins: Celebration staff members will also carry their own exclusive pins. Just kindly ask the staff member if they have any exclusive pins to trade. While exchanging pins, make sure to also thank them for their hard work.
This year’s collection contains 45 Star Wars character pins designed by Chrissie Zullo. Zullo is an illustrator who has worked with DC, Dark Horse, IDW, Topps, and many more. You can follow her on Twitter and Instagram.
Fans looking to participate in the Pin Trading Program will have the opportunity to purchase their first set of pins today, February 22! Two additional sets of Celebration Chicago pins will also be available exclusively to ticket holders online before the convention kicks off in April.
I recommend purchasing these pins the moment they go on sale due to their popularity. Keep in mind these pins will not be available at the show. They are online exclusives, so buying these pins in advance will make it easier for you to trade as soon as Celebration Chicago begins.
The first pin set to go on sale is The Phantom Menace 4-pack.
The second pin set will no doubt bring much joy to a lot of Star Wars Rebels fans. It will be a 2-pin pack featuring Hera Syndulla and Kanan Jarrus.
The third pin set features Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala.
The first pack will be available to purchase today, February 22, at 12 PM CT (1 PM ET). Make sure to check your inbox for the Road to Celebration email. It will contain unique login information for ReedPOPSupplyCo.com, where the pins will be available for purchase.
U.S. fans will receive their orders in the mail around mid-March, while international fans will pick up their orders onsite at Registration. Orders will also include an exclusive t-shirt.
