Developed by NeoPangea in collaboration with Disney Channel and Lucasfilm, Resistance Racer was created with the goal of making it fun and accessible to all ages.
“For so many of us, Star Wars is probably the franchise that had the biggest impact on our childhood,” said Aaron Beaucher, the game’s creative director at NeoPangea. “Our design teams couldn’t contain their excitement as they realized they were going to be working on interfaces that pioneered modern sci-fi design and our 3D artists couldn’t believe they would have access to high quality models of recognizable ships, like the X-wing, to work with.”
After accessing the game in the DisneyNOW app, players have the option to choose either Kazuda “Kaz” Xiono or Tam Ryvora, customize the Fireball, and race against the Ace pilots in a 21-race, multi-cup campaign. Along the way, players will unlock engine and wing upgrades to increase their speed and agility.
The ultimate prize? Unlocking Poe Dameron’s X-wing. Once all levels are completed, players can participate in the BB-8 Challenge and race through the campaign again in order to beat previous course times.
Music and sound effects from the series as well as voice performances from the Star Wars Resistance cast are packaged into the game, making it feel like you’re part of the Star Wars universe.
“There are very few things in life that are timeless and resonate with multiple generations, which can be intimidating,” NeoPangea shared on Instagram. “You feel a great responsibility working in this vast Star Wars universe that fans will scrutinize if it doesn’t feel authentic and, at the same, time you are honored to have an opportunity to create something meant for a new audience and younger generation of fans.”
